The parallels here indicate the beginning of a new phase: Jesus as light for the world (12:35–36, 46–47) and the gathering of disciples from among the Greeks and other nations. But the response to the Greeks’ desire is not that they are introduced to Jesus now. The response will be the event that enables that global reach.
